Overall is a great product and very easy to use even for toddlers. It is really non-spill. The only thing is the straw. With time, it accumulates dirt inside and is very hard to remove, even with Dr. Brown's brand cleaning brush (very thin and tiny so it can go through the straw). Still, I like the product, and the beverages keep their temperature for hours.

I first came across this product over a year ago while looking for something to keep food warm for the kids. I bought a set of funtainer bottle and food jar. (BTW the food jar keeps things warm for hours!). Ironically we rarely use the food jar out of my laziness to prepare hot food, but we use the water bottles everyday and loved it. Funtainer bottles aren't cheap, but I went thru so many cheaper insulated bottles one after another over the last 3 years (would've been enough to buy many funtainer bottles!) . The Funtainer bottles lasted the longest (18 months and counting). I don't have any leak issues with these bottles. My pre-schooler loved the car design so much that I bought him three (one for school, one for other activities, one just in case something happens and he's so attached to this same bottle for a year now). Crazy at it seems that I have 3 of the same Cars funtainer. I bought their adult version too (about 50% bigger). The best part is keeping things very cold for a long period of time. In California where most of the year is sunshine, the water stayed icy cold even if I left the bottles in the car during errands. The ice cubes don't melt for half a day inside the bottle, and the kids really enjoyed the sound of that! I also put slightly warm water in the winter (you're not supposed to put HOT water in it though), and it stayed warm for hours. This makes kids feel better during winter when they dined on the playground in school. One good thing that I don't see in the reviews but my kids and friends kids who had this bottle loved to drink water out of it even for no other reason besides the fact that it's so easy to get water out. Some old bottles we used were hard to suck out the water (that's how they make it leak proof), but Funtainer's straw was very straight forward. The kids just loved to hug the bottle wherever they went and drank a lot of water as a result. It's not recommended for holding juice or milk, so I only put water in it. I rinse it out everyday with warm soapy water and it takes just 30 seconds. Once in a while I'll clean it out with little pipe cleaners, the straws come off easily.

We've been VERY ROUGH with the funtainers in the last 18 months. Believe me it gets me really nevous and mad to hear another loud sound of accidental drop of the bottle! But nothing chipped or broke, it still looked quite new, absolutely no leaking if I closed the lid ( if the kids closed the lids themselves, sometimes I'd see a wet car seat, but it was pure human error, they didn't screw all the way, nothing to do with the product itself). My only thing to complain is the cost of replacement straw was expensive, half the cost of the original Funtainer! But so far I haven't gotten to that point. But I've been very very happy with Funtainer and greatly recommend this to anyone who hadn't tried this yet. In fact I'll be buying more on Amazon as a birthday present for other kids.

This particular design (cars) is one purchased for my nephew. The other nephews got Star Wars and Spider Man. The nephews love the graphic and the cold water, mommy loves that they don't spill easily, are free of comtaminants and keep the kids water drinkably cold, even in the car left in the Oklahoma heat. Overall, we are very pleased.

However, this item has been washed in the dishwasher several times and the graphic is definitely suffering! It is scratched and chipped all over the place. On the other hand, a few months later, I bought the How To Train Your Dragon bottle for my son and it seems to be faring much better. Of course, I wash our bottles by hand much more often than I put them into the dishwasher and I think she washes theirs in the dishwasher almost exclusively. Still, I think that information needs to be passed on to potential buyers. The scratching, etc. happened pretty quickly - within about 3 months my nephew's cups looked like they had been through a couple of lifetimes already. My son's still looks relatively new.

Another point that I think is highly applicable to a purchasing decision: it DOES spill, just not easily. My toddler (just turned 2) is not trusted with one of these water bottles. If the lid is not closed, when the bottle falls over, it allows the contents to leak out. This makes for a nasty surprise when you think it is spill proof and allow your toddler to take sips of your water while you sit on the couch, absorbed in your book and suddenly are jerked back into reality by the realization that your bottom is soaked - as is the couch! So, I do NOT suggest purchasing these for a busy toddler. The child needs to be old enough to understand that they must close the lid everytime they are done sipping.

I know that is a lot of negative, but really - we love these bottles. Even if I were persuaded to give up on the kids' versions - you're not taking MINE!!! ;)

I've seen other reviews state that the lids break easily, but ours have not. We have 3 adult bottles and 7 Funtainer bottles in our extended family owned mostly by boys, mostly under the age of 10, for over 9 months and yet we have not had any breakage yet. Also, they really, really work! They really do keep water cool for at least 14 hours. As others have said, it fits in cup holders without being absurdly top heavy, no sweating, the bottle doesn't get cold, but the ice stays for hours - even in the hot Alabama sun in summer! It's quite shocking, in fact, to pick up a warm bottle in a blisteringly hot car, pop open the lid and sip ICE water!

Oh, one more thing...when the bottle of ice water has been in the heat for a while it sprays out a little bit of water when you open the lid. So, either aim it at your cheeks, shining pink from the heat - or aim it at the nearest passenger and then act surprised that they were squirted. ;) I consider it to be more fun than a negative, but that just may be my impishness coming through.
